The Sensata RP8A is a Klixon RP series thermal protector engineered for non-IC recessed lighting fixtures operating on a dedicated 120 VAC supply. It serves as an automatic safety switch designed to detect dangerous thermal conditions, such as fixture insulation buildup or over-lamping, which could otherwise lead to overheating or fire hazards. Operating via a low-sensitivity bimetallic internal heater mechanism, the device automatically cuts power to the load?causing the connected light fixture to blink safely to alert users of a fault condition?and automatically resets once ambient temperatures fall below its high threshold (typically functioning around 145?C). Fitted with three color-coded wire leads (black, white, orange), it is housed in a compact frame featuring a spring steel clip made to easily mount into standard 1/2-inch knockout holes.
